The Mayor of Chisinau and one of the leaders of the ALTERNATIVA Bloc, Ion Ceban, held a press conference today to present proposals for the development of the Capital. These proposals will be included in the Bloc’s electoral program and, later, applied nationwide in the governing plan.
“Chisinau is the economic development hub of the entire country. Officially we have over 700,000 residents, and unofficially nearly one million. In recent years we have shown that things can change for the better: we have freed the city from debt, developed infrastructure, and attracted investments. Many of the projects implemented here can be taken over and replicated at the national level,” said Ion Ceban.
The mayor emphasized that investments in schools, kindergartens, roads, parks, medical centers, and social services have delivered visible results.
“We have made no distinction between Chisinau and its suburbs; funding has been allocated based on people’s needs. In the suburbs of the capital, we have carried out more projects than in the last 30 years,” he added.
Key proposals presented by the ALTERNATIVA Bloc include:
✔️ creating a legal framework for paid parking and efficient management of urban spaces;
✔️ establishing a local/community police force, funded from the state budget, to ensure citizens’ safety;
✔️ completing the Chisinau ring road and expanding public transport;
✔️ removing abandoned vehicles and introducing higher taxes on neglected buildings;
✔️ developing energy efficiency programs and compensating heating tariffs;
✔️ revising legislation on special economic zones and creating industrial and technology parks;
✔️ restoring institutions and historic monuments located in Chisinau;
✔️ increasing the municipality’s financial autonomy by raising state budget allocations;
✔️ rehabilitating student dormitories and modernizing educational infrastructure;
✔️ converting the site of the former military unit into a municipal parking lot and building a new road over the railway to ease traffic flow.
“These projects are viable not only for Chisinau, but for the entire country. We need a professional team in Parliament—one that can understand people’s problems and implement effective solutions,” concluded Ion Ceban.
