The Mayor of Chisinau and one of the leaders of the ALTERNATIVA Bloc, Ion Ceban, held a press conference today to present proposals for the development of the Capital. These proposals will be included in the Bloc\u2019s electoral program and, later, applied nationwide in the governing plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cChisinau is the economic development hub of the entire country. Officially we have over 700,000 residents, and unofficially nearly one million. In recent years we have shown that things can change for the better: we have freed the city from debt, developed infrastructure, and attracted investments. Many of the projects implemented here can be taken over and replicated at the national level,\u201d said Ion Ceban.<\/p>\n
The mayor emphasized that investments in schools, kindergartens, roads, parks, medical centers, and social services have delivered visible results.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have made no distinction between Chisinau and its suburbs; funding has been allocated based on people\u2019s needs. In the suburbs of the capital, we have carried out more projects than in the last 30 years,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Key proposals presented by the ALTERNATIVA Bloc include:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2714\ufe0f creating a legal framework for paid parking and efficient management of urban spaces; \u201cThese projects are viable not only for Chisinau, but for the entire country. \n\u2714\ufe0f removing abandoned vehicles and introducing higher taxes on neglected buildings;
\n\u2714\ufe0f developing energy efficiency programs and compensating heating tariffs;
\n\u2714\ufe0f revising legislation on special economic zones and creating industrial and technology parks;
\n\u2714\ufe0f restoring institutions and historic monuments located in Chisinau;
\n\u2714\ufe0f increasing the municipality\u2019s financial autonomy by raising state budget allocations;
\n\u2714\ufe0f rehabilitating student dormitories and modernizing educational infrastructure;
\n\u2714\ufe0f converting the site of the former military unit into a municipal parking lot and building a new road over the railway to ease traffic flow.<\/p>\n
